I love this baking pan not only because it bakes well but because of it's height. So many times I ordered a brownie pan and it was so short that right after opening the package I would return the pan. I gave up looking for awhile and one day I decided to look again. Then I saw this one and noticed the height was three inches. Ordered it but didn't read the rest of the description. When this pan came it I was happy with the height but noticed the bottom of the pan was different. There was a square opening with a tray to put over the opening. I don't know why it was made like this guessing so more heat can distribute also under the batter. Well I didn't use it right away so when I did make brownies I didn't read the manual again. I just put the tray over the opening and pored the mix. Put the pan in the oven and in less than five minutes I was smelling a strong odor. I looked in the oven and saw a good bit of the mix had leaked out from the bottom of the pan and on the bottom of the oven. I then through about the opening so hurried and got a flat cookie sheet to put under the pan. After I read the manual again and it had written to put a cookie sheet under the pan. After it was done the brownies were baked (I always double my batter) and tasted awesome. The weight is not heavy, made well and worth the money. I had to give the pan a five star because the pan is made very well. I gave myself a one star for not reading the manual again before baking in it.

I'm pretty sure I bought this pan for a different reason than most others. I make a mint brownie and get orders for them all the time. They consist of: the actual brownie, then a mint frosting, and lastly, a choc glaze. I had this wonderful idea and hoped that it'd work. I purchased the X-large pan, and did I ever luck out! The grid fits perfectly in my Mirro 9x13 cake pan. So after the brownies are complete, I push the grid right on top of my brownies, and Voila! I used to take wasted time measuring all my cutting lines, but now that's unneeded. They are now all the same size and look so much nicer. I decorate individual pieces before boxing them up. This pan/grid is a blessing! So very, very happy! EDIT: I was looking at reviews today, and noticed someone said the X-Large pan didn't have a removable bottom, but MINE DOES.

THIS IS A HANDY BAKING PAN. IT COMES WITH NO “TIPS” OR RECIPES TO TRY. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN TO EXPERIMENT WITH. IT TOOK ME 1 FAILED RECIPE TO GET IT RIGHT, SO TAKE IT FROM ME….IT WILL TAKE 2 BROWNIE BOX MIXES. THE BAKED MIX PRODUCES 28 GENEROUS PIECES PERFECTLY EVENLY AND THE SAME SIZE. IT MAKES YOUR PRESENTATION NEATLY DONE. HOWEVER, IT IS A SLIPPERY PAN WHEN USING BAKING CLOTH MITTENS IN AND OUT OF THE OVEN. SO USE SILICONE GLOVES TO PREVENT A DISASTER.

The written description for the XL says it bakes 24 brownies. It actually bakes 28 -- which is what one of the photos shows, the other shows 18.I recommend the seller clean up the conflicting information. For my needs, 24 brownies -- not 28. (medical)Otherwise, it looks like a great product! :-)
