I just got my 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Limited a couple of months ago. One thing that bothers me is the lack of interior lighting. I've slowly obtained products to try to resolve that. In this case, the problem was the hatch area. The LED lamp for that area is at the side of the space and has less output that the similar light on my 14-year-old Prius... totally unacceptable. When I found this product, I took a chance. If you're considering buying the product WATCH THE INSTALLATION VIDEOS. This is a crucial step to success. I found the printed instructions unusable, and the vendor even reached out to me to recommend reviewing the video. I feel like everything was pretty straightforward with the exception of feeding the power wiring from the hatch area through the body side to the side-mounted fixture. After several tries and much patience, I got the wiring to the right spot and everything works perfectly. The lamps fit into the space in the tailgate perfectly and look like they were part of the original equipment. The lights do a great job of lighting the hatch area. I would definitely order these again, and I have no problems in recommending them for the RAV4. Note that this part only fits the Generation 5, or AX50-series RAV4.

Once installed, these things work very well. The hard part is installing them. The sad part is that with any kind of decent directions, they would not be hard to install at all. Before we discuss installation, lets talk about performance. In short they make life in the RAV4 so much nicer. It is now easy to see when loading or unloading. The light is bright and even but in no way blinding or uncomfortable. They make great work lights at camp sites or when getting out tools to help a fellow motorist and if you drop something on the ground it is easy to find because a large area of the ground is lit up behind the bumper. This also makes adding or removing accessories from the hitch receiver at night a breeze. At a camp site or fishing spot, when you might want to have less light, they can be turned off, either both of them or just one as each side has a separate switch. It should be noted that these lights will turn on and off automatically just as the stock cargo light does. The switch is only needed if you care to extinguish one or both of the lights. In my case, outside of camping and fishing scenarios, I never touch the switches. It would be a nice touch if the switches remembered their last state as sometimes while camped, if it is very late, I would not like to disturb those who are slumbering nearby, but this is a very small point.Installation RAV4 Hybrid:I am familiar with cars and electrical systems, so I really did not need much here, but let me share a few quick tips to make this quick and painless.I don't know why the instructions don't say to NOT plug this in at the connection point until you are fastening the plastic back on on the right side of the interior. It should, because it is UNWISE to plug it in too early and they seem to direct you to do just that thing. DON'T plug it in until the wiring is fully in place and the the connection is complete at the hatch.Remove the top plastics around the upper hatch, remove the three fasteners that hold the headliner up but DON'T remove the headliner. If you just take those three retainers out then the wire will slide right past the headliner. There is no need for coat hangers or rods or strings or any other other thing. The headliner will drop about an inch (2.5 cm) or so and you just push it through. Then put the retainers back in.Loosen the plastics on the right side but don't remove them. Remove the cubby on the right so you can reach the back of the original cargo light. At this point feed the first part of the wiring harness past the headliner, down past the loose plastics and to the original cargo light, BUT DO NOT PLUG IT IN.Remove the rubber hatch conduit tube AS SPECIFIED IN THE DIRECTIONS. There is no need to use the other tube, or to cut any holes, nor modify any parts as some have suggested here. Take an 8" (200mm) zip wire tie and cut the head off of the wire tie. Take some electrical tape, about three inches (3" = about 75mm), and tape the harness to the wire tie near the point where you cut the head off the wire tie. BE SURE TO TAPE OVER THE EXPOSED ELECTRICAL CONNECTION. This will protect the connection as you pass it through the rubber tube. Take some DIELECTRIC GREASE, a blob about the size of two green peas and lightly coat the tie and the tape and about an inch or two of the wire that is exposed behind the tape. The reason you use electrical grease is because it any amount that you missed wiping up will not harm the wire, the rubber or adversely affect any electrical connections. Some types of grease and petroleum jelly can eat at parts. Some types of soap can also affect parts and connections (though are are special types of soap made for this purpose). Soap can also dry out creating service problems during future repairs. Just get the proper grease. It can be used for so many things including your battery terminals and a small tube will likely last you several years or more.Push the lubricated pointed end of the wire tie through the rubber conduit. Everybody seems to struggle at this point but I got mine through in about 30 seconds with almost no effort. If the wire you are feeding through the conduit starts to bind, just add a tiny drop of electrical grease to make it easy again. Once you pull it all the way through, wipe off any excess electrical grease. It does not have to be spotless, just don't leave a mess. The grease inside the rubber conduit can remain there. At this point secure the three tabs that hold up the headliner near the hatch and snap on all the plastics except the bin at the the right rear. Just leave it out and let the wiring harness hang in there.Proceed to install the rear lights as the diagram indicates. Be aware these lights are specific to each side. There is a light specific to the left and right side, however the wiring harness is not, so feed either side of the harness behind the gate cover and attach them to the lights after you are sure you have the left and right light on the proper sides and secure the loose wire with wire ties. Note that some of the holes in the hatch receive the plastic tabs on the hatch covers, so don't use these holes or you won't be able to put the plastic parts back on.At this point you will take the electrical connector (that you hid under the tape when getting it through the rubber conduit) and insert it into the white plastic connector and then join the two haves of the wiring harness. There will be a bunch of extra wire at the top, but there are plenty of spaces to tuck it into. If you don't secure it, you might be able to hear it flopping around and rough edges may eventually cut the wires, so don't be lazy, secure it properly.Once secure, it takes just a minute to put the hatch plastics back on.NOW you will go back to the cargo light. Feeding the plug from the area behind the bin and through the hole where you removed the cargo light and plugging that part into the light and then plugging the other end into the wiring harness where the light was plugged into the car's native harness. At this point, your lights should be working. Snap the original cargo light back in place, snap the cubby back into place, secure the floor panels and you are finished.Installation should take about 30 minutes if you are sipping tea and telling stories while you are doing this. The hard part for most is getting the wiring harness through the rubber conduit, but if you do it like I wrote it here, it takes two minutes. And if you wait to plug it into the native harness towards the end instead of the beginning, you won't experience the blown fuses others have either.Online videos are helpful in showing you how to remove and install the plastic bits, but they plug the harness in too early and they use terrible techniques feeding the harness through the rubber conduit. Also they don't tell you to remove those three headliner retainers near the back at the hatch. If you just modify their procedure with these three changes, this becomes a breeze.ConclusionThis was worth the time and the money to do. The light is great. The cost is reasonable as is the effort to install it. My only recommendation for the manufacturer is some decent instructions.

The instructions are in Chinese and incorrect. Installed these in 2024 RAV4 Hybrid using tips from reviewer Mission Specialist regarding using 8” tie wrap and lube to get it through the grommet. Note in my pictures where I used the tie wraps (loose initially) and my clip on one side of the tie wrap so I don’t lose it. Yes, cut off the one end of tie wrap and attach harness with tape. As for getting harness from light to top, removed the three headliner tabs and used a long tie wraps as a pull so no need to disassemble side.

Fairly easy to install, provide way more light than the little light inside, would be brighter if the lenses were not smoked.
