I got these after reading a review from The Wirecutter saying these were an upgrade pick at $400. I got them waaaaaaay under that by buying from Amazon Warehouse. They look great, feel great, and do sound good. My other set of cans are Hifiman 400i's. They destroy the Denon headphones. My Hifiman's are open back and I wanted a close back with great sound and soundstage. I know I keep saying this, but these are good. They are not great. They are not what I was looking for and I didn't spend near the $400 asking price. Instead I found the Sivga SV006's for less than $90! They sound much better than the Denon and are cheaper. I don't know if I have found exactly what I was looking for. They are not on par with my Hifiman 400i's but they are much more detailed and have a much better soundstage than the Denon MM400's.

UPDATE: I am updating my review and bumping my rating from a 3 to a 5 both to reflect the stellar sound quality of this pair of headphones AND the quality of customer service I ultimately received from Denon in resolving the issue. Specifically, the tireless and timely attention of a representative named Greg has turned me from a pretty embittered and disgruntled customer into a "Denon Man" for life.Sometimes things are faulty and that's just life. It's how the situation is handled that makes or breaks the customer experience. Initially, I was displeased with the answer I got from Denon and even more displeased (borderline irate) with the treatment I'd gotten from one of outside companies they contract with for service. My review reflected that. Now, Denon has done the right thing, and I've removed some of the snarkier and hostile content from my review while keeping the facts of what happened in tact. Also, since I always appreciate this kind of information when I see it in other reviews, if you're looking for a replacement cable, this is one I bought that fits/works well: https://amazon.com/gp/product/B07NS9JM3T/Modified review below:I'm not a true golden-eared obsessive audiophile, but I do like good sound, can hear the difference between good and bad sound, and strive to find products that accurately reproduce sound. I guess I'm an audio enthusiast. These are the best sounding headphones I have ever owned. I have AudioTechnica ATH-M50s and Sennheiser HD598s, and these beat both of those by miles. If you're in the market for great sounding balanced Mid-Fi headphones, these cannot be beat on sound quality. No part of the music sticks out like so many other headphones (no booming bass or shrill high end, just smooth, balanced pleasing sound). These are also very comfortable headphones. The pads are like a soft, gentle hug on your ears. I may have smaller than normal ears, because I've read that some find the cups too small and had their ears rubbing up against the inside, but this was not an issue for me.One problem. Those soft, buttery pads that are so comfortable fell apart on me after only 6 months of very gentle (only at my desk, never even over to the couch, never mobile, careful on and careful off) use. They split right at the seam, exposing the foam underneath. What I really wanted was just a new pair of pads under the 1 year warranty. Initially, this is not what Denon suggested. When I telephoned for support, they wanted me to start mailing my $400 headphones around to a third-party authorized service company I'd never heard of to be kept for an unspecified amount of time just to replace the pads. That seems very inefficient. Plus, I didn't buy $400 headphones to be without them for who knows how long, I bought them to use and enjoy them. After a terrible experience contacting the third-party company (they threatened that replacing the split pad with replacement pads I might buy online would void my warranty, which seemed ridiculous), I wrote this review and then contacted Denon by email. I don't know which avenue ultimately resulted in getting a reply, maybe both combined, but the email representative who reached out - Greg - was accommodative and helpful and resolved my issue with a new pair of pads (they actually sent 2 since FedEx lost the first) within days. Now I'm back to enjoying beautiful sounding, comfortable and in tact headphones and loving every minute of it.Thank you, Denon. The sound quality of these headphones, as well as customer service that goes above and beyond to make sure you're satisfied, has earned my repeat business.

Trust me, it is the headphone that you really should buy if you are not very sure about which kind of music that you like best. Unlike Beats which is mainly focused on bass and pop, and audio technica that concentrate on human voices, it can reach a balance among lots of styles and it will never let you down. I've been wearing it for half of a day since i received it, it fit my head quite well and very comfortable as well. I can wear it for a day easily. I made a comparison between mm400 and studio 2.0, and from every perspective mm400 is way better than studio, except when it comes to the mega bass part, studio will be more infectious or powerful than mm400. Some of my friend like to compare mm400 with MSR7(audio tech) and MDR-1A(sony), in my opinion, MSR7 and 1A are definitely good headphone, they all have their remarkable pros as well. However, when it comes to the overall quality of the headphone, none of them can really compete with "her". You may not be impressed when you first put it on your head, but gradually you will have a feeling that you can't leave it. If you are dissatisfied with your headphone and willing to buy a headphone to improve hifi experience, this is where you should start with.

I really enjoyed these headphones. They are very comfortable, I enjoy the looks of them and they sound pretty amazing to me. They are fairly small and compact but having 'regular' to large sized ears myself, I found they fit well with no uncomfortable spots or rubbing. I'm not extrememly experienced with audio but these are a big step above other headphones I've had in the past, including the often famed ATH-M50X
